Fishing Outlook: Flows on the Ausable and surrounding rivers are at prime flows thanks to yesterday’s rain.Prime trout fishing conditions are still here and and based upon the weather should be staying. Rain is set to hit the Adirondacks and stay for the next 10 days. Cloudy morning turning into afternoon showers looks to be the daily trend. Mornings have been the most productive time and will likely remain the best option for this week, Large terrestrial and mayfly are still producing large numbers of fish. Nymphing wise, girdle bugs, caddis pupas, hares ears and pheasant tails have been the best options. Fishing tandem rigs with either two nymphs or a nymph and a dry, have been the most productive. For the most up-to-date reports give us a call here at the Fly Shop at 518-946-2117.
Warm Water Temps: As we come into July and August we will begin to see an increase in water temperatures on the Ausable, which is perfectly normal for this time of the year. Be sure to carry a thermometer watch for that 68 degree water temperature. There are plenty of other fishing opportunities in the Adirondacks to include bass, brook trout and pike! If you have any questions in regards to water temperature, and other fishing opportunities stop in the shop or give us a call and we can point you in the right direction.
Note: Black fly season has hit us here in the Adirondacks, hatches are spread sporadically across the river. Good idea to pack a good face covering and have bug spray ready to go.
Lost and Found: A fly box was found dropped at Phillips pool and was brought to us here at the fly shop. An iPhone 7 was dropped just downstream of the whiteface bridge. If you are missing a fly box or find a missing phone give us a call here at the shop (518) 946-2117, so that both items can be returned to their proper owners.
Up Coming Events: Fly cases are full stocked with all of our favorite fly patterns. Definitely stop by the shop and take a look and make sure your box is fully stocked with current hot flies. Guiding: We have plenty of guide openings this week, along with July and August (to include weekends). Our guiding service specializes in creating a fishing experience tailored for you and with plenty of fishing opportunities in the Adirondacks you definitely don’t want to miss out. We have a variety of options to include, wading trips for trout, float trips for bass, boat trips on Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, and backcountry small stream brook trout fishing. Big terrestrial patterns have been the most productive on the Ausable. Franklin County Bass Season opens is officially open and the bass are coming off their beds and are hungry looking for poppers. Our Boat guide (Zack Horrocks) has been crushing it on both Lake Placid and the Saranac Lakes. For those looking for more more secluded fishing options, we have two selections of private water for you. The Dream Mile and Bush Country are two sections of river privately leased by the hungry trout and only open to our guests. If you are interested in booking a trip, and/or looking for more information on guiding give us a call here at the shop, (518)-946-2117, and we are more than happy to fill in the blanks.
