Fishing Outlook: A major heat wave has arrived and will remain in the region until Friday. We do advise against fishing the West Branch of the Ausable during the heat wave to avoid impeding fatal stress on trout. However, hot temperatures appear to only remain until Thursday with rain predicted after. Although heat stress will occur, with this warm temperature we will likely see sudden thundershowers once a day, that do have the opportunity to bring much needed water to help sustain the fish until the heat passes. Our current advice is, stick to those small Brook Trout Streams (which do have the opportunity for incredible fishing, with some being 30+ fish days!) and warm water fishing which will be on fire For the most up-to-date reports or have any questions regarding fishing strategies give us a call here at the Fly Shop at 518-946-2117.
Adirondack Warm Water Fishing Report:
With the passing of the spawn, the official opening of Franklin County Bass fishing season, and the coming heat Bass fishing is predicted to be on FIRE! Both the Hungry Trout Fly Shop and our sister shop the Adirondack Anglers Outpost are fully stocked with warm water needs. Our current suggestion is to focus popper patterns with a chartreuse coloration against and along banks. The purpose of poppers is to disturb water to entice fish. Us a method of stripping and sudden rod tip twitches to get that signature “bloop”. Stripping pattern commonly used is “Strip, Strip, Pause, Strip, Strip, Pause…”. Please give the fly shop a call with any questions regarding warm water fishing. We do offer guided Boat and Float Trips for bass for those looking to cover more and bigger water in hunt of those warm water giants.
Current Shop and Guided Fishing Updates:
Main river trout fishing has slowed down for the week, but we have so many alternative fishing opportunities. Small streams for brook trout, floating the Saranac river and ripping boats across the Saranac Lake system looking for lake monsters. Cooler weather is looking to return next week with some rain in the forecast. The trout will greatly appreciate your patience and allowing them to work through the heat. In the meantime we will be focusing on a local small stream all the way up to a large lake. If you are interested in guided trip or would like more information, please Call 518-946-2117 or email [email protected] for guide inquiries. Thank you and see you soon!
